Pre-school Curriculum and Pedagogy

Our Pedagogy
At St Joseph's Pre-school we encourage and develop the children's cultural capital with the involvement of the family. From this we further the child's interests and experiences by providing a wide and varied curriculum through engaging and exciting themed free-flow and focused opportunities. We are outdoor explorers who are active to ensure we keep fit and healthy!
 
Our Curriculum and the steps to achieve these
 
Throughout the children's time in the setting, the children will:
>Learn how to grow plants 
>Engage in mark-making moving onto name writing
>Gain an understanding of numbers
>Develop of communication and language skills
>Develop colour and shape knowledge
>Develop knowledge of sizes
>Develop use of tools (including scissors and cutlery)
>Develop a secure pencil grip
>Develop independence in dressing, such as putting on own coat, shoes/ wellingtons
>Access the toilet independently
>Wash and dry hands independently
>Recognise own name in different situations
>Understand feelings and be able to label their feelings
>Develop self-resilience
>Develop problem solving skills 
>Follow the settings golden rules
 
The setting will provide exciting experiences
>Animals in the setting, such as ducks, chicks or caterpillars through ethical providers
