Welcome to St Joseph's Nympsfield Out of School Club

St Joseph’s Nympsfield Out of School Club (OOSC) is run as a charitable organisation to provide essential wrap around care.

The OOSC operates from the Leigh building within the

St Joseph's Catholic Primary School's grounds.

The OOSC will prioritise providing care for the pupils of St Joseph's Catholic Primary School. We also now offer wrap around care for pre-schoolers who are confident toilet users, aged 3-4 in their pre-school year; for example, if they are going to school in September 2024 then they will be able to use the facilities between September 2023-July 2024.

We also run a holiday club for one week at Easter and two weeks during the Summer Holiday. This is open to the same age children who attend the wrap around facilities.  More information on the Holiday Club can be found on this website under Parents/Holiday Club.

St Joseph's Nympsfield Out of School Club is registered with the Charity Commission. Our registered number is 1084550.  In addition, as the Club provides care for children under 8-years of age, we are also registered with Ofsted.  Our Ofsted URN is 101856.

We take your privacy seriously and ensure that we handled your information in an appropriate manner and in line with current GDPR/DPA legislation.  Please see our Data Privacy Notice under 'bookings guides and FAQs' for more information.

We are not currently recruiting, but keep and eye on our "Vacancies" something may appear in the future!

Staff Ratios

We ensure that all children who attend St Joseph's Nympsfield Out of School Club (OOSC) are within both sight and hearing of staff and always within at least sight or hearing.  In addition, at each session the Designated Safeguarding Lead or her Deputy is in attendance.

The OOSC follow guidance recommended by the Out of School Alliance with regards to staff ratios.  Namely:
  • one staff member per 8 children up to the age of 8;
  • one staff member per 10 children aged 8 or over.
And Early Year Foundation Stage (EYFS) guidance with regards to children aged 5 and under.  Namely:
  • one staff member for every 8 children aged 5 or under.
At each session there is at least one member of staff who holds an approved Level 3 qualification or above, and at least half of all other staff hold an approved Level 2 or above qualification.  All staff have completed the safer recruitment process and hold an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate.

Staff aged 17 or over are included in ratios.  Any staff under 17 is supervised at all times.  Staff working as apprentices may be included in the ratios if we deem they are old enough and are satisfied that they are competent and responsible.

As the OOSC's provision is solely before/after school care or holiday provision for children who normally attend reception class (or older) during the school day or in their last year at St Joseph's Pre-school, we ensure that there is sufficient staff at each session for a maximum of 27 children.

Opening times:

Breakfast: 7.45am - school opening

Afternoon: 3.20pm - 6.00pm

Activities:

The OOSC provides a wealth of activities including (but not limited to):

  • Inside activities - Cooking, craft, roll play, Lego, book club, imagination play, board games.  Activities are both child and adult lead.

  • Outside play - free play area, Didi cars, skipping, netball, imagination play, den making, tennis etc.

Every term a theme is adopted and activates are organised relating to this. For example, a recent topic was Travel. Topic activities included: cooking recipes from different countries, travel agency role play, a World Drumming Workshop and Games from around the world session provided by a third party.

The OOSC team firmly believe Sir Ranulph Finnes' mantra "there is no bad weather, only inappropriate clothing", which is why full waterproofs and wellies are available to all children attending OOSC. This enables them to enjoy the superb outside space available, no matter what the weather.

Membership:

Any child attending St Joseph's Catholic Primary School may attend OOSC, subject to being registered on the online booking system

Children not registered on this system will not be able to attend OOSC, so even if you don't require a space at the moment, we would recommend you take five minutes to register now so that you could use the Club in case of emergencies.

Designated Safeguarding Lead and Deputy Safeguarding Lead

Everyone in the education service shares an objective to help keep children and young people safe by providing a safe environment, identifying children and young people who are suffering or likely to suffer significant harm and taking appropriate action.

At St Joseph's Nympsfield Out of School Club we ensure that all staff and committee members undertake relevant safeguarding training, whether this be at level 1, 2 or above.  Staff are required to ensure that their safeguarding training and knowledge is kept up to date.

Within the Staff we have a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL).  These staff members have undertaken extra training and attend fortnightly DSL support meetings (online).  Our DSL and DSL are as follows:

  • Designated Safeguarding Lead: Marie Knight
  • Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead: Natalie Finn-Powers
  • NB: during Natalie's maternity leave, Kayleigh Niven will step up to be the DDSL
  • Safeguarding Committee Named Lead is the Chair person

All our Policies & Procedures (including those associated with safeguarding) can be found in the OOSC's section of St Joseph's Catholic Primary School's website.  These are the latest versions of these documents.
