Spring Term 2 2023-2024

Week 3

What a busy week we have had in Year 3! The children's favorite thing about this week has to have been World Book Day on Thursday. We enjoyed coming into school in our pyjamas and reading our favorite books while drinking hot chocolate. It was so lovely to be supported by so many grown ups too. Year 3 certainly have the aspiration that Reading Gives you Wings!

This week we have also begun looking at money in Maths, and recognising the different coins we use, in preparation to add them together next week.

We have been growing in our faith by engaging with Lent in a Bag through class prayers. A big thank you to all the members of our chaplaincy team that have run these sessions, the children have really enjoyed learning more about Lent.
Week 2

We have done a lot of science this week! On Monday, the children performed their magnet experiment working in small groups with empathy and high expectations. We were very surprised to find that even though something is made out of metal, it does not mean it is magnetic!

We have also begun our unit on light - understanding that darkness is the absence of light and how light reflects off of objects so we can see them. We made some fantastic observations about the moon - well done Year 3!

In RE we grew our faith by looking at the days of Holy Week, and understanding how different countries around the world celebrated it. This fits with our Catholic Social Teaching value of Solidarity.
Week 1

The children have bounced back into school with enthusiasm and energy. We began this week by creating some Roman Shields - we're hoping to send a picture to Samuel Class, our partner class at St. Thomas Moore. The children also went on a magnet walk around the field, finding things that are magnetic and things that are not. There was a lot of great exploration going on, even though it started to hail!
