Summer Term 1 (2025-2026)

Summer 1, Week 4

Another glorious week for our aspirational learning. We have been busy using our playdough area to showcase our high expectations in our maths, using die frames to make amounts to 10.

Our physical development area outside continues to inspire aspirational ideas, where we have been making courses for marbles to travel, and using the wooden plates to try and keep marbles from rolling of to the floor. Our outside learning didn’t stop there, we also made some very creative nature inspired pictures.

We loved getting to share our faith outside with everyone, by drawing fish all over our playground leaving messages to share God’s love for us, celebrating how followers of Jesus often use the symbol of the fish, recognising that Jesus was a fisher of men.

We have been working hard on our CEW knowledge, and writing them out with special rainbow paper, to put on display on our boards.

The highlight of our week this week, has been our tip to Slimbridge Wetlands, where we feed the birds, learnt all about our amazing wetlands, went pond dipping, met a grey crowned crane (and learnt how to talk and dance like them) and enjoyed a trip to the park, before seeing the flamingoes on the way back to the coach.

Mrs Daly and Miss Bennett were so impressed with each and everyone of us, and how we all REACHed during our first class trip! A huge thank you again to the amazing parents that came along with us, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

Summer Term 1, Week 3

The sun continues to shines on us, and we are really loving the dry weather for our learning in our outside area. We used the sun to help us create animal shadow drawings.

Our aspirational attitude to learning has stretched to our wild kitchen this week, where we have been cooking up a feast for our friends, and going on nature hunts, making lists of things in flower!

We have been really resilient when continuing our Mini Beast music unit of work, considering the beats in music and how different music can make us feel.  We have really enjoyed playing along and creating music together.

For maths we have been sorting tens frames, doubles, and not doubles, making amounts with counters and showing high expectations as we begin a new unit about 3D shapes. We know that cuboids have flat faces and a sphere is round.

For REACH time this week, we loved spending time with our buddies seeing the amazing DT buggies they made for us – we were so impressed with their designs, each one so aspirational in their creativity, it was lovely to spend time reading together with them too.

Summer 1, Week 2

So much marvellous maths! This week we have been demonstrating our confidence with our number knowledge working at creating doubles, and sharing how we know they are doubles (double 3 is 6, double 5 is 10). We have continued to use our hot cross buns to practice our ‘doubling knowledge’.  They are 2p each.  Thank you to Ivy’s Mum for such beautiful creations. We have been showing our high expectations when counting amounts (seen and unseen – think sounds, actions and collections) and knowing how many more are needed in amounts.

We shared a very special assembly with Year 1, focusing on NSPCC – Speak Out, Stay Safe, where we were empathetic as we considered how we always make sure we stay safe, and made a class prayers poster to share our thanks to God for all the people who help keep us safe.

During RE we reflected on God’s endless love, when he sent the Holy Spirit to be with us, after Jesus returned to His Father in Heaven, and know feeling the wind around us can help us sense how the Holy Spirit is always near too – we enjoyed exploring this part of the catholic faith with scarves outside as a way of ‘seeing’ and ‘feeling’ the Holy Spirit.

Summer 1, Week 1

What an exciting return to school we have had – we have loved being out and about, visiting the convent for our story time there, and visiting the church with Mr Gwyer to see and learn more about the tabernacle.  We even created our own version of a tabernacle for our prayer table.

Ms Bennett (our new TA) has been working outside with us and helped us to create even more exciting obstacle courses, where we are moving with confidence.

We have been showcasing our high expectations in our handwriting, including in our new Literacy journey where we are reading the Three Little Pigs and writing dictated sentences.

We are really enjoying being aspirational with our coordination for both multi-skills with Mrs Barron and Gymnastics with Mrs Daly.

We are ‘overjoyed’ to have returned to our classroom, to yet another topic inspired role play – a laboratory, but also some caterpillars which we are studying the life cycle of.

We can see they are tiny, we have noticed they have little hairs on their bodies, we wonder how big they will get over the weekend.

Our REACH this week, was getting to share a story with Year 2 and their amazing puppets they have created in DT.  Thank you Year 2!
