Autumn 1 2025

Week commencing 20th October 2025

This week, our classroom has been buzzing with curiosity, creativity, and celebration as we explored the theme of Awe and Wonder across our subjects.

In RE, we were discovering Diwali and we delved into the vibrant Hindu festival of Diwali, learning about its traditions and meanings. We designed our own Diwali cards with thoughtful messages and created stunning Rangoli patterns using symmetry, colour, and imagination. It was a joyful way to reflect on light, hope, and celebration.

In Science, we looked at work inspired by Sir C.V. Raman, a scientist who studied light through prisms, we explored how light behaves and bends. It sparked plenty of “wow” moments and scientific thinking!

In Geography, we compared the climate zones of the UK and India, looking at temperature, rainfall, and seasonal differences. Pupils worked in teams to create informative and eye-catching comparison posters, linking geography to real-world understanding.

In English, we put our persuasive writing skills to the test by composing letters to Mrs Howells, each one championing a change or idea we’d love to see in school. From new clubs to playground improvements, the children’s voices were passionate,

We explored Lavani music, a traditional Indian dance form known for its rhythm and energy. Pupils listened closely, appreciated the cultural richness, and responded through movement-bringing music and mindfulness together.

As we wrap up this special week, we’re heading into half term feeling proud, inspired, and ready to recharge for the exciting learning ahead next term. Have a lovely rest and we will see you next term!

Week commencing 6th October 2025

This week we have had a brilliant week and have been REACHing to the highest that we can. We have done some wonderful work.

In Maths, we finished off our topic on place value and have started our unit on Geometry: properties of shapes, where we began to look at different types of triangles; equilateral, isosceles and scalene. We have been showing great confidence with it especially as it is a new topic. We discussed the different ways we can tell which triangles are which.

In English, we have been focusing on looking at fronted adverbials and ambitious vocabulary, we wrote our scene setting paragraphs.

In PE, we have been playing netball and football where we have been focusing on various different skills and putting it into practice through small games.

In MOT, we have been looking and focusing on our times tables as this is very important in Year 4.

In Geography, we are still looking at climates and we had to be weather reporters for the lesson and write a weather report for London, for a certain month using data including things like temperature and precipitation.

In Art, we are looking at storytelling through drawing and we are focusing on a poem called ‘The Jabberwocky’ where we are looking at sections through the weeks and illustrating those using pencils, charcoal and pen.

In RE, we were looking at the virtues; Faith, Hope and Love. We looked at a lady called Jenny Garzon and the work she does for CAFOD in Columbia. We had to look at how she had demonstrated these virtues through the work she has completed. We were showing empathy throughout these sessions.

We hope you enjoyed reading this blog, we are very excited for next Thursday when there is going to be a soup kitchen and on Thursday morning and we are going to be preparing the vegetables ready for this.

From Year 4.

Week commencing 29th September 2025

This week in class, we've been celebrating Little Way Week- a special time to reflect on how small acts of kindness, when done with great love, can make a big difference in the world around us. Inspired by this message, we created beautiful paper flowers and heartfelt posters to send out to our communities, reminding others that kindness is contagious and powerful.

In maths, we've been sharpening our number sense by rounding 3- and 4-digit numbers to the nearest 10, 100, and 1000. We've explored how rounding helps us estimate and make sense of large numbers in everyday life.

Our English lessons have been all about painting vivid pictures with words. We've been learning how to set the scene using fronted adverbials and ambitious adjectives to bring our writing to life. Whether it's a mysterious forest or a bustling city street, our stories are becoming more descriptive and exciting every day.

On the pitch and court, we've been showing real confidence in our football and netball sessions. This week, we focused on defensive strategies-learning how to anticipate movement, work as a team, and protect our goal. It's been brilliant to see everyone stepping up and supporting each other.

In RE, we've continued exploring the story of Abraham, focusing on the powerful moment between Abraham and Isaac. We've discussed themes of trust, faith, and sacrifice, and how these stories help us understand deeper values in our own lives.

We also attended Mass this week, where we showed great respect and reverence. It was a peaceful and reflective time for us to come together as a class and community.

It’s been a week full of learning, kindness, and growth- and we’re proud of everything we’ve achieved together. Let’s keep spreading joy, showing courage, and lifting each other up!

Week commencing 8th September 2025

We’ve had a brilliant first full week back at school, filled with exciting activities and plenty of opportunities to settle into Year 4 life. The classroom has been buzzing with energy, curiosity, and kindness as we’ve REACHed through faith, hope, and love in everything we’ve done.

In our RE lessons, we explored the story of Abraham, thinking deeply about how he might have felt and what life was like for him. We reflected on his journey and the courage it took to follow his faith-such a powerful way to begin our year.

On the pitch, we’ve been sharpening our football skills, focusing on marking players effectively. We practised front marking and goal-side marking, learning how to position ourselves like true defenders!

Our new unit on place value has begun! We’ve been representing, reading, and writing 4-digit numbers. Even when things got a little tricky, we showed amazing resilience and kept trying our best-well done, everyone!

In English, we’ve dived into the world of newspapers. We explored all the key features and retold the article Heroic Schoolgirls Find Stolen Cash using story maps and actions to help us remember. Then we used our plans to write up the newspaper report-fantastic work!

Times tables are a big focus in Year 4, and we’ve started practising them with enthusiasm. Don’t forget-you can keep practising at home using Maths Frame to boost your confidence and speed!

We’ve been exploring storytelling through drawing, looking at artists who use images to share powerful messages. Our sketchbooks are already filling up with creative visual notes that show how thoughtful and imaginative we are.

Thank you for reading our class blog-we can’t wait to share more next week. Have a lovely weekend!
