Week beginning 9th March 2026

Year 5 blog

Our biggest news is on Thursday we had a STEM day making scribble bots! This was kindly hosted by NRS who provided all the kit for the children to take home!
Here is what we had to say:

- Elliot: it took a lot of time to make the wires neat and tidy!
- Callum: We watched some videos about what NRS did in their job.
- Austin: The off-weight vibrations made it move.
- Seth: We also decorated them!
- Molly: The classroom was really messy afterwards!
- Bella: At first, we had a go at making our own circuits.
- Julia: We got to decorate them with whatever we wanted and everyone called theirs funny names
- Evie: We used trial and error when we were making our circuits.
- Lucy: We used the hot glue guns to glue on all the decorations
- Joni: Everyone swapped pen colours so we had the right ones.
- James: Everyone's designs were really unique.
- Ava: We got to see Mrs Hannon dress up in the decontamination suit!
- Ginny: At the end, we got a big piece of paper and our scribble bots made lots of patterns.
- Finn: They took a long time to make but they ended up really good.
- Bea: We tested all the electronics before we started putting them on.
- Elizabeth: My favourite bit was when we got our big piece of paper and used them to make art work
- Finley: they drew!
- Amberlee: We have to remember not to put the crocodile clips on the plastic bit of the wire
- Ella: We all had a really good time.

On Tuesday, Chaplaincy and Catholic children went to the Immaculate Conception church to see the relics of Saint Carlo Acutis. We all received prayer cards which we touched against the relics to create mini relics of our own to keep forever.

On Wednesday, some of us went on a rugby tournament too. We don't know the full results, but we had a good time!

As Julia correctly said, we have had a very busy week!

See you next week!

We finally had good enough weather to do some gardening! It was lovely to see our garden come to life! One of our first jobs (and most important jobs!) was to get rid of all the sycamore seedlings! We do NOT want sycamore trees in our flower beds!

In PE, we have been doing gymnastics. This week we got to go on the high apparatus- practicing our climbing and balancing skills. When we went on the apparatus, Mrs Carr looked rather worried but we showed her how brilliant we are!!

In Maths we have been learning about fractions, decimals and percentages. We know that percent means out of 100 and this has really helped us be super confident this week.

In English, we have started our work on suspense stories. Suspense keeps the reader guessing! We are very used to cliff hangers from our class book so we CANNOT wait to write our own!

Finally, and most importantly, this week was World Book day! We got to dress in our pjs, we made forts with blankets to read in, we did a range of activities and we watched a live lesson! It was brilliant fun!

See you next week!

Welcome back!

In PE we have started gymnastics with Mrs Dixon! We warmed up on the mats and then we got the apparatus out. We learned: log roll, dish roll, circle roll, straddle jump, pike jump, tuck jump and straight jump. We used a spring board, a table top and a bar to help us!

We actually had some sun this week! This is going to dry the ground for us to be able to get out into the garden soon! We can't wait!

This week we have really been focussing on high expectations. Ella and Julia have received their pen licences and Mrs Carr said EVERYONE is on the list to get theirs next. All we need to do is make sure our presentation is the best it can be, we form our letters correctly and we have a good go at our spelling. I wonder who will be next...?

In Maths we have been doing fractions. Our favourite bit of sticky knowledge is "what you do to the bottom, you gotta do to the top!"

In writing, we have done our purple write for walking with our Iguana. We have also written really good persuasive letters about topics we are passionate about.

In History, we are learning about Dursley and we are going on a school trip there soon!

See you next week!
