Autumn 2 2025

Weeks beginning 8th and 15th of December

Mrs Carr blog

In the last two weeks of school, our days have been very jam packed so I thought I would take the opportunity to blog this week!

Last week, we had pretty normal morning lessons but the afternoon was filled with carol concert practice. The children sing their class song so beautifully, I can't wait for you to hear it tonight. If you miss it, keep an eye out for our school digital Christmas card, because we recorded them singing it as our backing music.

On Tuesday 9th, we got to watch the KS1 Nativity which was absolutely fantastic! The children sang and danced with such confidence and Year 5 were full of complements! If you want to see a snapshot, have a look at our school Instagram or Facebook page where there is a reel of the highlights.

On Friday 12th we did our look who's talking heats. Well. Poor me having to pick! I have never had such a hard decision to make! It took me all weekend because the quality of ALL the speeches was incredible. The confidence and passion that shone through was remarkable. There was a huge range of topics too, from Cheerleading, to golf; from puppies to sea turtles and from dirt biking to Lego. I learned about places from all around the world and it was a real highlight of my week. But, there had to be just one winner and I have picked Bella for her speech about Alcatraz. Congratulations Bella!

This coming week is full of Christmas shenanigans!

Yesterday, Year 5 helped load shoe boxes from the Rotary club to Moldova, Romania and Ukraine. Reel is on Facebook and Instagram of them!
Today is the Carol concert dress rehearsal and actual concert.
Wednesday is School Christmas lunch and pantomime (oh no it isn't!)
Thursday is Christingle service in the morning.
Friday is breakfast with Santa, Christmas jumper day aaaaand 1:30 early finish!

So before we all get swept along with the Christmas shenanigans, I would like to take the opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, thank you for all your support in the first big term and I look forward to welcoming Year 5 back in 2026!
Week beginning 1st December

This week, we have been hard at work practicing our song for our carol concert (Tuesday 17th December at 6:30 if anyone wants to come!!) It is sounding really good and we can't wait to perform it for you! Today, we performed it to Year 3 so we are getting all the audience practice too!

Today, we have also finished off our letters for the shoe boxes. We are asking parents for ONE item to bring in to fill shoe boxes. These need to be in by next Friday.

This week has been filled with quizzes! We have done reading, maths and grammar quizzes. We have shown so much confidence and resilienceOur stand out success is every single one of us improved our SPAG test results by at least 8 marks! That is amazing!

In Maths, we have been dividing decimals by 10, 100 and 1000. It's really easy when you know the sticky knowledge: Move all the digits (one, two or three) places to the right. Decimal point does not move!

On the 1st December, we have started our Advent calendar book: Stepfather Christmas. Is Nick Father Christmas or not? We are split down the middle and we can't wait to see where the plot takes us!

Mrs Carr note:
Sorry about the lack of blog last week, I was off poorly for most of the week! The children were absolutely incredible in my absence, showing their maturity and high expectations. I am so proud of them!
Week beginning 17th November

This week in PE, we learnt about dodging and marking in PE. We learned about being light on our feet and mirroring our opponent to try and intercept the ball! It was so much fun!

The highlight of our week was music! We learned about how to turn rhythms into musical notes and the "value" each note has. We really are enjoying our Viking chant and all our improvisation skills are giving us so much confidence!

We have been rained off gardening for quite a while, so it was lovely to be back out there again today. We did SO much weeding and Mrs Carr temporarily fixed the shed roof. We are going to need to invest in a new shed which is a BIG project!

In Maths, we have been exploring how to multiply whole numbers and decimals by 10, 100 and 1000. We have been really resilient as it has been tricky at times!

On Thursday, four children from Chaplaincy went to the Cathedral to be commissioned by the Bishop. It was a very special occasion to be blessed by the Bishop and to receive the blessed badges from the Deacon. More information will be on the Chaplaincy page soon.

Finally, our writing has improved SO much in the short space of time. Our recent Sci-Fi work was so good, parents are going to see it tonight! We can't wait to show you!
Our next purple write is all about Vikings- YIPPEE!!

See you next week!
Week beginning 10th November 2025

Year 5 blog

We have started a new music scheme. We learned a Viking song which has absolutely stuck in our heads! We could sing with confidence, as we channelled our inner Vikings!

On Friday, we had odd socks day to represent the fact that everyone is equal for anti bullying week.
We also had a cake sale organised by 7 of our class to raise money for the Convent. We can't wait to tell you how much we raised!

In PE, we got rained off on Friday but we watched professionals play netball. We were astonished about how quickly the ball was passed and how quickly the players were moving. This has inspired us for our lesson on Tuesday.

In Maths we have been looking at how place value holders help us with mental addition and subtraction of decimals. Once we choose our strategy, it is actually really easy!

In REACH time, we have started Operation Christmas which is where we start getting ready for all things Christmas! We have started planning the shoe box appeal AND we have started preparing for our Christmas Carol concert.

On Tuesday, we commemorated Remembrance in the Hall; lead by Year 6 and Reception. It is always a very solemn occasion to remember all those who died in the wars.
Week beginning 3rd November 2025

Year 5 Blog

This week was the first week back of Autumn 2 and it was Stroud Literacy festival! We had an Author visit; Sian Hughes, who did some workshops with us. Her books are about a girl who is a robber who hired a cat to help her. The title of the book was "Wanted: Cat!"

As part of Stroud Literacy lesson, we had a live workshop with Louie Stowell who wrote books about Loki. She guided us about how she illustrated her books and we got to draw Loki too! We also did some acting about what it would be like for Loki coming to Earth as a kid instead of an Ancient Norse God.

In gardening, we had a huge leaf collecting push as we need them for the summer holidays and to protect the beds over the winter. We split into teams and collected leaves from all around the school! We filled 13 bags! Another group did some weeding at the front of the school so it can keep looking really smart!

We have been preparing for 11th November Remembrance as well. We hope you will join us for the Remembrance ceremony.

See you next week for another jam packed week!
