St Joseph's School Garden

Our school garden started a few years ago, but we have made some quite big changes over the years!

Since 2024, it has been Year 5's responsibility every Friday to tend the garden as well as assist with the care of our Prayer garden.

The class split into teams and are responsible for one bed all academic year. In that bed, the children can choose to grow fruit, vegetables or wild flowers. We hold regular sales to raise money for compost, seeds and pots.
This year, all our money is going towards fixing the shed!

We have seen lots of interesting things whilst digging! From eggs, to spiders, to centipedes, to MILLIONS of golden ants!

2025-2026

The season has been particularly odd this year. A warm and wet winter led to MUCH growth of previous plants...and weeds! Since the Spring, our days have been warmer...and a healthy sprinkling of wet too! So the weeds have gone nuts and we are struggling to keep on top of them!
However, we show resilience and keep digging away!

Speaking of digging, we are currently digging a new wildflower super bed next to the shed. This should be done soon and then we will have a beautiful big space to grow all our wildflowers!
