Week commencing 19th January 2026
What a fantastic week of focus, curiosity, and creativity it has been in our classroom. The children have shown real determination across all subjects, and we’re excited to share what we’ve been up to.
Our mathematicians have impressed us with their brilliant concentration as we tackled column addition with four‑digit numbers. Everyone has been working hard to line up digits carefully, regroup accurately, and explain their methods with confidence. The progress has been wonderful to see.
In English, we continued our journey into explanation texts. We explored how they are structured, the features that make them clear and informative, and why they are useful. The class has now planned their own explanation texts, and we’re looking forward to seeing their ideas come to life in writing next week.
Gymnastics has been a highlight, with pupils experimenting with different shapes, balances, and movements. They showed great enthusiasm while exploring the apparatus and challenging themselves to try new positions. On Friday, our cricket coach returned for another energetic session. The children practised key skills such as throwing, catching, and striking, and their teamwork continues to grow.
In RE, we explored the big question: “Who do you say I am?” We looked closely at Peter’s words about Jesus and discussed what his response tells us. The children shared thoughtful ideas and showed great respect during our discussions.
Art lessons were full of pattern and precision as we explored tessellations. After studying examples, the children designed their own repeating shapes and used them to create eye‑catching tessellated patterns. Their creativity really shone through.
Our Geography focus took us to South America. We identified the countries on the continent and explored how time zones work across different regions. The children were fascinated by how the time can vary so much from place to place.
Keep up the good work Year 4!
