St Peter

Welcome to Saint Peter’s Class Page!

"Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men."
Matthew 4:19

Who is St Peter?
St Peter was a fisherman from Galilee. Peter and his brother Andrew were fishermen before Jesus called them to follow him. One day, as Peter and Andrew were mending their fishing nets, Jesus called out to them. Both brothers left their nets to become disciples of Jesus.

Peter was present during the major events in Jesus' life. For example:
- Peter helped collect the leftover loaves and fish after Jesus fed the crowds.
- He witnessed the Transfiguration of Jesus.
- He had a leadership role among the disciples.
- Peter was one of the first people to see Jesus alive after he rose from the dead.
- Jesus gave him the name "Peter" as it means "rock" - Jesus relied upon Peter and entrusted him with a very special task - To be the leader of the church.

"You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church."
Matthew 16:18

Who will teach your child in Year 2?
Miss Rebecca White

Year 2 Class Teacher

My name is Miss White and I am delighted to be joining St Joseph's as the new Year 2 teacher. It is wonderful to teach a class of such aspirational, motivated and hard-working children, and I am looking forward to seeing what they can achieve over the next year.

When I am not in school, I enjoy reading, spending time with my family and friends and discovering new crafts!
Mrs Alice Staples

Teaching Assistant

My name is Mrs Staples and I am the new Year 2 class teaching assistant.

I am finding it incredibly rewarding to be assisting Miss White to teach such a lovely bunch of children, who make me smile on a daily basis and I am excited to go on this journey through year 2 with them.

When I'm not in school, I enjoy running, arts & crafts, spending time with my family and friends and singing in a band with my husband.

Routines in Year 2
  • Saint Peter’s homework will be set on a Friday, this will include: Spellings – These will need to be practised at home ready for a test every Thursday. Reading, Writing and Maths homework will also be set on alternate weeks. This all needs to be completed and handed back in on the following Wednesday.
  • Once per term, the children will also have Religious Education homework.
  • PE will happen every Monday and Friday - Please come to school in your PE kit.
  • Reading at home is really important for all children. Children will be rewarded with a Reading Point if they read at home five times per week.
  • Each week, a child will bring home our class Prayer Bag. Within the bag, you will find a cloth (linked to our Liturgical Season), prayers and religious objects linked to the time of the year. Please use this to pray together as a family.
  • Please take a look at our class blog to see what we have been up to!
What is it like to be a child in Year 2 at St Joseph's?
When your child reaches Year 2, they are in their final year of Key Stage 1. With this, comes responsibility and they are expected to have consistently high expectations of themselves, being outstanding role models for the rest of the children within the EYFS and Key Stage 1 phase.

The children continue to grow in their faith by embedding Catholic Social Teaching in their daily lives, rooted in scripture. Children have shown that they are Stewards of the Earth, doing everything they can to look after God's creation. This is supported by exploring Laudato Si, a message to all of us from Pope Francis, during our Creation topic at the start of the academic year.

My hope for the children within my class is for each child to feel valued, feel they have a voice and to have the confidence to always be the best they can be. The children work incredibly hard throughout the school day, following a similar timetable every day. This includes:
Group Reading, Maths, Phonics, Liturgical Prayer, Writing, Maths on Track and Topic work.

The children in Year 2 are exposed to the teachings of Jesus through a range of subjects such as Religious Education; Relationships and Health Education (RHE); Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) Edcuation and GREAT DREAMs. We teach children how to show love to thy neighbour, showing empathy and kindness to all around them, just as Jesus has taught us to do.

In May, towards the end of the academic year, our fabulous Year 2 children have the opportunity to complete quizzes to showcase just how wonderful they are. The children will complete the quizzes for Reading; Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPAG), Arithmetic and Reasoning. These are used to confirm the assessments Miss White has made throughout the school year but she knows it's only a tiny part of who we all are as people. Fortunately, we have the opportunity to explore our gifts and talents throughout the school year, having the confidence to try new things and to always have resilience.
What do our children say about Year 2?

How do I contact my child's teacher?
