Summer Term 2 2025

Week commencing 23rd June 2025

Year 6 Blog – Faith, Hope, Love and Being the Best We Can Be!

What a brilliant week it’s been in Year 6! As we move through our final half term together, I’ve seen so many moments that reflect the values of faith, hope and love – values that guide us each day. I’ve also seen a real commitment from the class to be the best they can be, both inside and outside the classroom.

Rounders – Fairness and Team Spirit

In PE this week, our rounders matches really showed how far the children have come. We used smaller teams, which meant everyone had more chances to play and really understand the rules. What made me especially proud was how they chose their own teams – and did it so fairly and sensibly. They worked hard to make sure the teams were equal and balanced, showing real maturity and team spirit.

RE – Our Global Faith

In RE, we looked at how the Catholic faith is shared across the world. I loved watching the children explore how beliefs stay the same, even though the way Mass is celebrated might change depending on culture, climate or economy. One highlight was watching a video of an outdoor Mass in Africa – the music, colours and sense of celebration gave the children a deeper understanding of how joyful faith can be in every part of the world.

RHSE – A Thoughtful Start

Our first “Making Babies” session in RHSE brought some expected giggles, but also showed how much the children have grown in maturity. We explored how a baby forms and develops inside a woman. I was so impressed by the thoughtful questions and the respectful way the class approached such an important topic.

Beauty and the Beast – Showtime Begins!

This week also brought our first full rehearsal in costume for Beauty and the Beast – and wow, what a moment! The children absolutely shone. Year 5 popped in to watch a little preview and couldn’t stop smiling. I am incredibly proud of how far the cast has come and so excited for everyone to see it next week. Don’t forget to grab your tickets – it’s going to be something really special!

Make £5 Grow – Ideas Taking Shape

Our enterprise project is really starting to build momentum now. The children have been working hard on their ideas, setting budgets, and designing eye-catching posters. I can’t wait to see how they bring their plans to life – there’s definitely a group of future entrepreneurs in this class!

Throughout everything, I’ve seen the values of faith, hope and love woven into our learning and relationships. Year 6 continue to impress me with their kindness, creativity, and determination to be the best version of themselves. I couldn’t be prouder.

Have a lovely weekend.

Week commencing 16th June 2025

What a fantastic week it’s been in Year 6 – full of energy, achievement, and moments to treasure!

Our play rehearsals have been in full swing, with a big focus on dance moves and singing. The room has been filled with laughter, teamwork, and joy as the children grow in confidence and bring the performance to life. Their resilience shines through as they work hard, support one another, and fine-tune each part of the show.

In English, we’ve been planning our diary entries, and there’s a real buzz of excitement as we look ahead to writing them next week. The creativity and thought going into these plans are brilliant – our pupils are setting high expectations for their work and aiming to impress!

Our ‘Moving On Up’ maths project continues, challenging the children to think deeply and problem-solve with increasing independence. It’s been amazing to see so many rise to the challenge, showing a truly aspirational attitude.

A real highlight of the week was attending the Leavers’ Mass at Clifton Cathedral. The service was beautiful, and Bishop Bosco’s homily gave us all something to reflect on. He reminded us that as we pack our bags for secondary school, we should also pack compassion and kindness – a message that really resonated with us all. Felix and Isla H proudly carried the school banner, and the children represented the school with grace and maturity.

We even managed to squeeze in a sunny game of rounders! Despite the heat, the children showed great sportsmanship, improving their understanding of the rules and really supporting each other as a team.

This week has been a perfect reflection of the values we hold dear – confidence, resilience, empathy, and a commitment to high expectations. Year 6 continues to inspire with their aspirational spirit and positive attitude as they prepare for the next exciting chapter.

Week commencing 9th June 2025

What a fantastic week it’s been in Year 6!

Our play rehearsals are really starting to take shape – it’s been brilliant to see everyone’s growing confidence, especially when it comes to singing and dancing at the same time! The effort and energy being put into learning lines is fantastic, and we’re aiming for scripts down next week – so please keep up the great practising at home. Costumes are also beginning to come together wonderfully – a huge thank you to all the families for your ongoing help and support! Your love and encouragement mean so much to the children as they prepare for the big performance.

In Geography, we’ve been learning all about famous earthquakes around the world. We explored how and why they happen, and the children were full of curious questions and insightful ideas. Their hope for a safer, better-prepared world really shone through in our discussions.

PE has seen us developing our rounders and tennis skills – with lots of great teamwork, faith in one another, and sportsmanship on display!

In English, we began a new unit on diary writing, using the powerful music video Titanium as our inspiration. There’s been a real buzz of excitement in the room, with plenty of creative ideas flying around. We can’t wait to see how these pieces of writing develop next week!

Well done, Year 6 – keep up the brilliant effort, enthusiasm, and that special spirit of faith, hope, and love in everything you do!

Week commencing 2nd June 2025

A Busy and Brilliant Start to Year 6!

What an exciting and jam-packed first week back it’s been for our fantastic Year 6 class! We’ve hit the ground running with energy, enthusiasm and, most importantly, high expectations for the term ahead.

One of the highlights this week has undoubtedly been Bikeability. Come rain or shine (and yes, there was a lot of rain!), our pupils showed real resilience as they took to the roads. Starting in large groups and then progressing to small groups of three, every child had the chance to develop their cycling skills with the support of kind, encouraging instructors. Whether they were mastering control or building up to road awareness, we saw confidence growing by the day – and lots of wet socks too!

While some children were out cycling, others took part in a Micro:bit computing session. They have really enjoyed exploring using these devices over the last few terms and have shown curiosity and creativity. It was lovely to see classmates catching each other up later in the week – true empathy and teamwork in action.

Our Beauty and the Beast play rehearsals have also continued, and it’s already sounding brilliant. We’ve been reminding everyone to keep practising their lines and lyrics at home. The focus and aspiration on stage are setting a great example of how far we can go when we commit to something together.

In RE, we’ve started learning about Saul’s transformation into Paul on the road to Damascus. The children reflected thoughtfully on this powerful story of change, faith, and new beginnings – an inspiring way to think about how we ourselves can grow and develop in our final term in Year 6.

In maths, we’ve continued with our ‘Moving On Up’ project, tackling challenging concepts with increasing independence. It’s been amazing to see pupils rising to new challenges and helping one another to succeed.

Throughout the week, we’ve seen our school values in action: aspiration in our learning, resilience in the rain, confidence on stage and on bikes, and empathy in how we support each other. If this week is anything to go by, Year 6 are set for an incredible term. Keep it up, everyone – we’re proud of you already!
