Week commencing 2nd June 2025
A Busy and Brilliant Start to Year 6!
What an exciting and jam-packed first week back it’s been for our fantastic Year 6 class! We’ve hit the ground running with energy, enthusiasm and, most importantly, high expectations for the term ahead.
One of the highlights this week has undoubtedly been Bikeability. Come rain or shine (and yes, there was a lot of rain!), our pupils showed real resilience as they took to the roads. Starting in large groups and then progressing to small groups of three, every child had the chance to develop their cycling skills with the support of kind, encouraging instructors. Whether they were mastering control or building up to road awareness, we saw confidence growing by the day – and lots of wet socks too!
While some children were out cycling, others took part in a Micro:bit computing session. They have really enjoyed exploring using these devices over the last few terms and have shown curiosity and creativity. It was lovely to see classmates catching each other up later in the week – true empathy and teamwork in action.
Our Beauty and the Beast play rehearsals have also continued, and it’s already sounding brilliant. We’ve been reminding everyone to keep practising their lines and lyrics at home. The focus and aspiration on stage are setting a great example of how far we can go when we commit to something together.
In RE, we’ve started learning about Saul’s transformation into Paul on the road to Damascus. The children reflected thoughtfully on this powerful story of change, faith, and new beginnings – an inspiring way to think about how we ourselves can grow and develop in our final term in Year 6.
In maths, we’ve continued with our ‘Moving On Up’ project, tackling challenging concepts with increasing independence. It’s been amazing to see pupils rising to new challenges and helping one another to succeed.
Throughout the week, we’ve seen our school values in action: aspiration in our learning, resilience in the rain, confidence on stage and on bikes, and empathy in how we support each other. If this week is anything to go by, Year 6 are set for an incredible term. Keep it up, everyone – we’re proud of you already!
