Summer 1 2025

Week Commencing 19th May 2025

This week has been a brilliant celebration of our learning as we wrapped up the term with exciting learning and memorable experiences.

Monday’s trip to Purton Hulks was a journey of discovery, where we explored the canal, the river, and the historic boat graveyard. The children showed such empathy and curiosity, asking thoughtful questions and truly appreciating the history around them. Their impeccable behaviour made the day even more enjoyable—it was a pleasure to see them engage so beautifully with the experience. Paul our tour guide during our trip quoted that the children are ‘a credit to the school and I should be so proud of them.’

In Geography, we tackled an important topic: flooding and its impact on communities. We considered how resilience plays a crucial role in rebuilding after natural disasters, and how people’s faith, hope, and love help them through even the toughest challenges.

This theme of faith, hope, and love continued in RE, where we explored the significance of the month of May and why we honour Mary at this time. Writing our own prayers gave us a moment of reflection, helping us express gratitude and trust in our faith.

In PE, we built on our cricket skills, focusing on precision and accuracy in our bowling. With great confidence and perseverance, we aimed for the wickets, proving that every effort counts in honing our abilities.

Art brought out our creative side as we transformed everyday tins and jars into incredible 3D sculptures. Each child embraced the challenge with high aspirations, demonstrating imagination and skill in their designs.

And to end the week on a high, Friday’s class treat was a splash of pure joy! The children had a blast with water activities, laughing together and celebrating the wonderful term we've shared.

Well done for this term Year 4! As we head into half-term, I hope everyone enjoys a well-earned break and the sunshine! Make sure you take time to rest, recharge, and come back refreshed, ready for more adventures with our learning for the final term!

Week commencing 12th May 2025

In RE we were exploring the four key beliefs of the Catholic Church, deepening our understanding of what anchors our faith. In our second lesson, we learned about PACT, a Catholic charity that embodies Jesus’ teachings of love and empathy, supporting those in need. It was inspiring to see how this organization lives out the values we hold dear—love one another, never give up, and high aspirations for a kinder world.

Our cricket sessions continued, and we focused on small game scenarios, putting our newly honed skills into action. We showed confidence, encouraging one another to give it a go and be the best we can be! Seeing everyone show resilience and determination while improving their technique was incredible.

Fractions can be tricky, but in Year 4, we take on every challenge with high expectations! We worked on finding fractions of amounts, pushing ourselves to think critically and apply our learning. Through persistence and teamwork, we’re mastering concepts that will shape our mathematical confidence.

Our glockenspiel lessons hit a high note as we practiced and performed a song with enthusiasm. Music is a powerful way to express hope and joy, and it was wonderful to see everyone supporting each other in their performance. With patience and dedication, we proved that small improvements lead to great achievements!

In English, we embraced the art of playwriting, crafting our own play scripts while focusing on adverbs and informal language. Writing is a wonderful way to aspire to be storytellers and have confidence in our ideas. The creativity and effort poured into each piece reflected the value of being the best we can be.

I look forward to our trip on Monday Year 4, enjoy the weekend and the beautiful sunshine!

Week commencing 5th May 2025

This week in Year 4, we have embraced the virtues and values of confidence, high aspirations, resilience, and empathy in all that we do.

Our musical journey continued as we played the glockenspiel, mastering the notes C, D, and E. Each note we played built confidence and resilience as we practiced, corrected mistakes, and celebrated our progress. Music has a wonderful way of teaching us patience and determination, and it has been fantastic to see everyone grow in their skills.

In our RSHE lessons, we explored Speak Out Stay Safe, learning about the importance of voicing concerns and ensuring the safety and well-being of ourselves and others. Empathy played a huge role in our discussions, as we learned how to be supportive, understanding, and kind to those around us.

Our RE lesson took us on a reflective journey to the shore of Lake Tiberius, where we explored the story of Jesus and his encounter with Peter. Through this story, we deepened our understanding of faith, hope, and love—values that remind us that mistakes do not define us but rather teach us how to grow and transform. It was inspiring to see everyone present their understanding of Peter’s journey, showcasing thoughtful interpretations and heartfelt reflections.

PE was full of energy and excitement as we developed our accuracy in cricket, practicing our skills through a mini-game that tested both our focus and teamwork. Resilience was key as we worked on improving our aim and technique, and it was brilliant to see determination shining through in every play.

Geography turned us into River Detectives! We embarked on a classroom journey following the River Thames from its source to its mouth, uncovering the incredible changes that occur along the way. Our curiosity and high aspirations fuelled exciting discoveries as we imagined the flow of water shaping the land and communities it passes.

It has been a truly wonderful week, filled with opportunities to learn, grow, and support one another and be ready to take on new challenges with confidence and enthusiasm.
