Week beginning the 25th November 2024
This week our nativity has been a whirlwind of hard work and dedication, everyone has been busy learning their lines, dances, and songs. It's truly amazing to see how brilliantly they have all come together, showcasing their talents and teamwork. I couldn't be prouder of year 1's efforts and the progress they've made.
Additionally, the children have been creating their shoe boxes to donate to the Rotary, and I want to say thank you so much for all of your donations. They thoughtfully decided what objects to include in each box, collaborating to create a total of five shoe boxes, which is fantastic!
We have also had our advent retreat, which the children thoroughly enjoyed as they went around each class engaging in different activities that celebrated and taught them about the key stages of advent. It's been a week filled with creativity, kindness, and learning!
Week beginning the 18th of November 2024
This week has been packed with engaging activities! In our MOT sessions, we've been diving deep into our number bonds to 7, exploring various representations like counters, drawings, and even using our fingers to visualize the concepts. On Thursday in Maths, we really got moving with some kin-aesthetic learning. We made a massive visual number line that stretched all the way to 100, using cones to mark the numbers. It was exciting to estimate where different numbers would go, and we enjoyed discussing our strategies and reasoning as we placed each number. Then on Friday, with Mrs. Barron, we shifted gears to learn about the birth of Jesus. We crafted our own mangers using our hands, which was a fun and creative way to connect with the story. We also had a thoughtful discussion about the stable, imagining what it would have been like to be there. We described what we would see, feel, smell, and touch, bringing the scene to life in our minds. It’s been an enriching week filled with learning and creativity!
Week beginning the 11th of November 2024
This week has been Anti-Bullying Week, and we've been focusing on the importance of treating people with respect and choosing kindness in our interactions. We have had a wonderful week learning about various different things, including in history looking at toys from the past! In RE, we’ve started a new story about Mary visiting her cousin Elizabeth, which ties in beautifully with our discussions about faith and connections. With Remembrance Day this week, we took time to honour and remember those who have served, which we could reflect on during our in other lessons including RSHE. Overall, it’s been a week filled with valuable lessons and engaging experiences!
In history, we were looking at all of the brilliant toys the children had brought in, and they were lovely to see! We discussed how old toys are ones our parents or grandparents used to play with when they were little, and it was fascinating to compare them to the toys we have today. We also talked about how toys have changed over time, exploring the differences in materials, designs, and the way children play with them now compared to the past. It was a fun and educational experience that really highlighted the evolution of play!
Week beginning the 4th of November 2024
This week in RE with Mrs. Barron, we learnt how the Angel Gabriel told Mary she was having a baby, and Mary said yes. It was a beautiful moment that highlights her faith and willingness.
After that, we started creating our very first page of a story about the lead-up to Jesus' birth, which was really exciting as we got to express our thoughts and ideas about this important event. It also reminded us of the importance of resilience, as Mary showed great strength in accepting such a significant role.
To further help us understand the annunciation we looked at some objects to remind us of the story. We then discussed what each of the objects might represent and why they are important to the story.
This week in Design and Technology, we looked at different types of moving objects and explored how wheels, axles, and axle holders help these objects move. It was interesting to see how these components work together to create motion. After that, we got hands-on and made our own axles, which was a fun way to apply what we learned and see the concepts in action.
