Week commencing 28th April 2025
A great first week back and what weather we’ve had!
In Maths, we have been completing our final unit before SATS – statistics – and the children have been interpreting and drawing line graphs and pie charts. Here we need resilience as there are set ways to do this and if it is not accurate the data is represented incorrectly.
Our English lessons have been focused on completing our free verse poems linked to a surrealist image; then we have moved on to looking at newspaper reports. The children have watched a short clip linked to a near disaster at a lighthouse and next week they will be writing about this. The focus is on including direct and indirect speech – whilst they are reading try to encourage them to notice this.
Our first Athletics session was focused on running and different start positions – the children considered what the best stance is for them when they begin their running. They laughed lots when I asked them to start lying on the floor! We have Sports Day and District Sports events to prepare for – I hope the weather is this nice for these!
We have finished our DT project creating vehicles for the Reception class – we have had very high expectations when creating these and a lot of resilience as they haven’t always gone to plan! We spent time this afternoon evaluating our work and deciding what we would have done differently and what was successful. Everyone had a working model (at some point!) during the day.
A short week next week – please make sure they complete their homework and continue with their SATS books if they can.
