GOVERNOR AWARDS OCTOBER 2022

Reception
In just the few weeks that this little girl has been at school, she has already demonstrated such a love for Religious Education. She is always respectful, listens carefully during lessons, and makes wonderful contributions to RE and class prayers. She goes above and beyond in RE lessons, regularly deepening her knowledge and understanding by extending activities, such as making her own bible and retelling biblical stories through her own drawings of key people.
This little girl tries so hard to follow in Jesus’ footsteps. She has such a gentle nature and is an incredibly kind and loving child, who is always striving to be the best she can be. She is a fantastic role model to her peers, and we are very blessed to have her in our class. We are so proud of you, well done Luna!

Year 1
This girl is a kind and caring girl who follows in Jesus’ footsteps. She joins in with Religious Education lessons and shares many lovely ideas. She has also produced some great pieces of work including writing her own psalm which I was very impressed with. She particularly enjoyed our lesson on how to care for God’s creation and along with some other children showed stewardship by deciding to pick up some rubbish off the school field. She is always looking out for her peers. She is very thoughtful and always lets me know if her friends are hurt or upset about something. This girl is a joy to have in the class and a great friend to lots of children. Thank you Winnie for being a special member of our school family and REACHing in all that you do.

Year 2
I would like to give my Governor’s Award to a little girl who arrives in school everyday with a big smile on her face, ready to learn. She is kind, thoughtful and will always put the needs of others before her own, following in the footsteps of Jesus in every aspect of her school life. She is able to reflect beautifully during liturgical prayer and always has the confidence to share her own experiences with the other children in the class. During Class Prayers, she is able to join in with a range of prayer and understands the importance of these. Thank you Eliza, for being such a special part of our school family.

Year 3
It is a pleasure to present this term’s Governor’s award to a member of St. Patrick’s class, who has been incredibly reflective, as well as being kind and considerate to those around him. His kindness has carried him through our first term and he always greets others with a smile. His empathy and work ethic has shown that he has undoubtedly been following in the footsteps of Jesus and been a shining light to those around him. He has been working especially hard in our RE lessons, thinking deeply about our key questions and writing some beautifully reflective and insightful prayers – especially for All Soul’s Day. Thank you to Edward, for demonstrating the values that are reflected within God’s image and likeness.

Year 4
This young boy thinks so deeply about everything he does. In our Mission statement: Inspiring others to REACH through Faith, Hope and Love, this young boy embodies that in everything he does. With FAITH: He makes strong links with his faith in all his lessons, not just Religious Education. He references Jesus’s teachings often and it is a reminder to us all how to follow in Jesus’s footsteps. With HOPE: he sees the best in everyone, and will always encourage others not to give up. With LOVE: he brightens our classroom, shows care and love to us all and is a role model in class.
Thank you, Arthur.

Year 5
It is a pleasure to present this term’s Governor’s award to a member of St. Teresa’s class, who is both thoughtful and kind. This young girls persona mirror’s Mother Teresa’s words, “It’s not about how much you do, but how much love you put into what you do that counts.” She continues to show this trait not only in the way she leads her life but also in her phenomenal work ethic, pouring her heart and soul into her learning REACHing in all she does- to be the best that she can be. Furthermore, she has stepped up to challenges presented to her this term; enabling her to demonstrate her understanding in Religious Education, whilst confidently drawing on scripture and saints. Always remember to have faith in yourself, considering the words spoken by the Philippians, ‘I can do all this through him who gives me strength.’ Thank you, Orla for demonstrating the values that are reflected within God’s image and likeness.

Year 6
This bright young lady has impressed me with her approach to Year 6 and her ability to be inspired through REACHing in Faith, Hope and Love. In Corinthians 13:4 it states, “Love is patient and kind,” and this person is 100% this as she always makes time to look after others, especially her Reception buddies. Also, whilst on residential she supported other children and filled her room with laughter and joy – it was a pleasure to see. She offers thought provoking suggestions in our RE session and her work shows a true understanding of the ideas that we have explored. When she writes prayers, she does so with a full heart and compassion towards all others showing how she is following in the footsteps of Jesus. She is a true role model for the school as she is one of the Eagle’s house captains; through this position, she can lead others and inspire people to be the best they can be. I’m excited to see what you achieve in Year 6 and I can’t wait to see you grow Isla.

Year 2
I would like to give my Governor’s Award to a little girl who has made outstanding progress in Religious Education since starting in Year 2. During God Matters sessions, she always takes the time to reflect upon her learning, making links where she is able to. She has worked hard to improve the amount of work she produces, supported by all of her ideas which she is always keen to share! She listens beautifully to Jesus’ teachings (both during the lesson and during Liturgical prayer) and she is able to confidently make links to her own experiences. This little girl was desperate to take home the prayer bag. When she brought it back in, she had set up her prayer area beautifully, supported by a prayer she had written independently. She is kind, helpful and I can always rely on her to be a good friend to all. I’m immensely proud of her. A huge well done to Ava.

Year 3
It is my pleasure to present this award to a member of St Patrick’s class who shows kindness and resilience in everything he does. He is keen to spread his kindness around our class, and welcomes each challenge with a fantastic attitude. No matter how complex the challenge may be, he always tries his best and has a smile on his face. His warm and kind heart lights up our classroom, and his positivity improves the lives of everyone. Walking in the footsteps of Jesus, this young man works hard to REACH in everything he does – but especially in our Religious Education lessons looking at the Annunciation. He is a fantastic role model to those around him, and is keen to be a loving person by showing empathy and encouragement to others. Thank you to Oliver, for being the amazing, thoughtful boy that you are.

Year 4
In this Advent time, it is a time of preparation, hope, love, joy and peace. These are also the words I could use to describe this little girl’s attitude in our school. In lessons, she reminds others who are struggling to have hope that they will understand it eventually. She shows peace and love to everyone and, by her example, others around her follow suit. Her joy in life, learning and God is wonderful to see. Her dedication to the Catholic faith and the Catholic ethos of our school is exemplary; she will always independently apply prayer and reflection in her work where she can. In doing all of this, she is always preparing herself for her journey in Jesus’s footsteps. Well done Nia.

Year 5
With an infectious smile, that lights up a room, this hardworking and aspiring individual strives to REACH in every area of his day. This delightful young boy, is determined to be the best he can be in all areas of his learning, furthermore it has been a pleasure to watch his character shine and his confidence build. In the Corinthians it says, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud…it always perseveres”. Now this individual, perseveres in every area of his school day interacting will those around him whilst showing kindness and friendship. His humble character clearly reflects the open heart he has, which pours out throughout every day, as he aspires to live in God’s image and likeness. Thank you for being the wonderful individual you are and having a smile (and laugh) that can brighten anyone’s day.
You deserve to be celebrated- Raffy.

Year 6
This thoughtful young man is a truly valued member of St David’s class. A quote from the Bible highlights many of this boy's attributes - in Peter 3: 8-9 it states ‘have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind’. This boy is able to have unity of mind by showing a clear understanding of scripture and stories studied from the Bible; his faith, hope and love shine through in everything that he does. He demonstrates care and empathy to others through his sympathy and compassion – whether it is supporting a classmate when they felt homesick on residential, or gently guiding the younger members within our school. I have watched him care for his buddy with a tender heart and seen how he interacts thoughtfully with all of the key stage one children. In class he is always humble considering when it is best to come forward and when to let others do so; understanding that he can make mistakes and learn from them; and showing gratitude for all the opportunities that he is given at school by approaching them with enthusiasm and delight. What a pleasure it is to watch you follow in the footsteps of Jesus, and it is a privilege to be part of the final year of your primary school journey George.

Year 3
It is a pleasure to present this term’s governor’s award to a member of St Patrick’s class whose resilience and perseverance have encouraged us all to be the best we can be. A supportive friend and a hard worker, this child has been keen to apply his high expectations to every area of his life. Every day this child comes into the room ready to inspire faith in his peers. Recently, he has been writing guides to reception for mass, and has been keen to shine his light around the room. He has been reflecting the words of Mother Theresa when she said “Never do the work carelessly because you wish to hide your gifts. Remember, that work is his. You are his co-worker. Therefore, he depends on you for that special work.”
Already I have seen such a massive improvement within this child so far, and am so excited to watch them fly. My highest congratulations to Henry, who has been following in Jesus’ footsteps since the start of the year.

Year 4
This young lady is a true reflection of inspiring others to REACH through faith, hope and love. Since the beginning of Year 4, I can always rely on this young lady to inspire, support and nurture new members of our class family - a job that she does voluntarily, willingly, and expertly. She confidently reflects Jesus’ light by ensuring our new members understand the Catholic life of our school; she nurtures them through the school day and shows unending love when they are feeling nervous or unsure. Week on week this unique individual makes me smile, partly due to his ability to apply his understanding of value and virtues to his learning, but mainly due to the kind and caring nature he models to his peers. Not only this but even though he has only been with us a short amount of time he is able to reflect and respond effortlessly across lessons clearly understanding the messages and lessons that can be gained from Jesus’ teachings. This young boy is both humble and empathetic. The quote from Peter sums up this unique and special boy, “Be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.” Thank you for being you - Cian.

She has served in Year 5 and 6 at Mass and has recently wowed us with her confident questioning skills in our Monday whole school Liturgies. She is part of the school's Chaplaincy team and is always keen to step up and be involved in all aspects of school life. Overall, she is inspiring others to REACH through Faith, Hope and Love and embodies our values here at St Joseph's; I am proud to have Freya as a member of St David’s class and can’t wait to see her grow this year.

He cares very much about how people feel and always puts others before himself. He enjoys taking part in our Religious Education lessons and shares many thoughtful ideas. He has produced some great pieces of R.E work too including writing the story of the good Samaritan. He demonstrates one of our catholic social teaching values of stewardship as he is a member of the eco committee and cares about the environment. Thank you Archie for being a special member of our class.

Year 2
I would like to give my certificate to a little girl who has the kindest and purest heart. She consistently displays and lives by our virtues, deepening her faith, inspiring others in hope and showing care and love to all around her. She listens beautifully to the gospel and confidently applies the teachings of Jesus to her own experiences. She demonstrates stewardship at every opportunity, looking after God’s creation by regularly doing litter picks around her local area. She is such an inspiration for us all. During Religious Education lessons, she works incredibly hard to develop her responses so that they link to the gospels, supported by her ever-improving Literacy skills. Everyone should look to this little girl as an outstanding role model in our St Joseph’s family. I’m so proud of you. Well done to Pearl.

Year 3
It is my pleasure to present this term’s Governor’s Award to a member of St. Patrick’s class who embodies our virtues of faith, hope and love. Although this child only joined our school at the end of last year, they have worked tirelessly within themselves to open their heart towards our St. Joseph’s family. They show their faith daily, by working hard in RE to empathise with bible stories and writing beautiful prayers. Recently, she has been looking at how our school shows compassion and was able to link everything we do with our Catholic Social Teaching principles. She shows hope within herself, always hoping to improve across all subjects. She asserts her high expectations at the start of every day, and always tries her hardest. She always hopes for the best, and her optimism is a shining light to us all. And last of all, she shows our virtue of love by being a kind friend to all those around her. By helping without being asked, by putting others before herself and by loving the teachings of Christ – she is truly an amazing young person.

My highest congratulations to the deserving little girl who always has a smile painted on her face bringing joy to all those around her. We are so grateful to have you in Year 3. Well done, Millie.

Year 4
This young lady has not been with us for very long, but the positive impact she has had on our class has slowly rippled through all of us. Quietly, graciously and humbly, she follows in Jesus’ footsteps and inspires all around her to REACH through Faith, Hope and Love. She never draws attention to her good deeds, never expects rewards for the empathy, love and solidarity she shows everyone, and demonstrates increasingly more understanding of the teachings of Jesus in her RE lessons. In Matthew 23: 12 “whoever exalts himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted”. Your humble and quiet devotion to our values and ethos of the school has not gone unnoticed, and I would like to recognise and celebrate your virtues that have inspired us all. Thank you for being you Lois.

Year 5
Don’t be fooled by this sports fanatic, the passion and drive he has for sport and exercise is mirrored across his learning-especially in Religious Education and Liturgical Prayer. Every week, I look forward to seeing him come alive in lessons, considering the most thoughtful and reflective responses to share with the class. Our virtues of faith, hope and love are woven into his insightful work, where he fully understands the importance of the messages given to us from the Gospels. It has been wonderful to witness your faith and understanding grow this year, whilst seeing you take inspiration from influential people. Continue to spread the good news. As was said by Pope Francis, “Our hands are a symbol for our hearts, and only open, generous hearts can change the world.” Thank you for having an open heart and remember what Gandhi said, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” Thank you Arthur for having Jesus’ teaching at the centre of what you do.

Year 6
I continue to be impressed by this young man, his growth, passion and enthusiasm for deepening his faith has captivated me as well as many other adults around the school. He is asking more questions and drawing upon his knowledge to link together ideas and use these to help him in following in the footsteps of Jesus. When he had the prayer bag, he was able to demonstrate his dedication to remembering loved ones and shared a lovely poem relating to this. In John 4:19 it states, ‘We love because he first loved us’ and this is true of this boy who has a lot of love to give, whether it is to his friends, buddy or family he often shows compassion and care for others. He has served in the church this year as well as reading during masses and he demonstrates a respect and understanding of this role. As well as this, he is a member of the chaplaincy team and has relished taking part in leading whole school liturgies. It will be a pleasure to watch you continue to grow this year Alfie M.

In religious education she puts her hand up and shares many lovely ideas. I am very impressed with her knowledge of the parables and miracles and how she remembers what we cover in every R.E. lesson. She has enjoyed learning about the Catholic Social Teaching Principles and thinks of ways we can incorporate them into our daily lives. She is also helpful and often offers to help me out in the classroom. Jemima you are a joy to have in the class and a special member of our school and class community.

Year 2
I would like to give my certificate to a truly remarkable little girl. She consistently applies her knowledge and understanding in Religious Education, drawing upon what she has listened to during Liturgical prayer and previous learning to help to deepen her understanding. She is able to make links between stories in the bible and identify similarities and differences within each. During class liturgical prayer, she will always contribute thoughtfully, as well as listening carefully to the views of the other children. This little girl is incredibly kind, caring and helpful. She consistently shows love and empathy to those around her and she has an infectious smile. When attending mass, she prays beautifully and always wants to take part by giving the offertory to Father Philip. What a shining example you set to the rest of the school. Thank you Joni, you are such a special member of our school family.

Year 3
It is my pleasure to present this term’s Governor’s Award to a member of St Patrick’s class who has been deeply reflective in relation to her faith. She always listens carefully to the gospel and has the confidence to contribute during whole school liturgical prayers. She constantly exemplifies our virtues of Faith, Hope and Love and has been asking excellent and observant questions not only in our RE lessons, but across the whole curriculum. In the playground, she is a caring friend who plays gently with others, and in the classroom she works diligently to be the best that she can be. Whatever she does, she does it with politeness and a smile – and is always looking to help others. She is a shining example within our room, and exemplifies the words of Saint Therese when she said “Miss no single opportunity of making some small sacrifice, here by a smiling look, there by a kindly word; always doing the smallest right and doing it all for love.” We are so blessed to have this child in our room. Huge congratulations to Isabelle, who inspires others to REACH through Faith, Hope and Love every day.

Year 4
I am going to use this child’s own words to show why I have chosen her for the Governor's award. Recently, we did a piece of work on how to be a witness of Jesus and this is part of what she wrote:
The main qualities when being a witness of Jesus are compassion, kindness, gentleness and patience. You should forgive people always and try to reflect all the good things Jesus did. You can start by showing kindness, for example, when someone feels ashamed or like they aren’t good enough, you can reassure them. Remind them how God loves them always, not matter what and that you believe in them. This might result in them feeling reassured or that they can do it. This is reflecting Jesus’ behaviour and his purity.
This child focussed on kindness in her writing, because that value, alongside the virtue of LOVE, is what she shows the most. Her support of everyone in our class community has not gone unnoticed. In a quiet, gentle manner she cheers her table team on, supporting and reassuring when things get hard. When she contributes in our learning about our faith, I am always so blown away by her ability to link concepts to Catholic social teaching, the virtues and the scriptures. It always gives us all something to think about!
I am very glad you show such kindness to everyone around you, thank you for helping us learn how to be a witness of Jesus: Olivia.

Year 5
With an infectious smile and giggle, this creative, caring and empathetic individual goes above and beyond what is expected of her. Furthermore, our school virtues of Faith, Hope and Love (Charity) are clearly present in this young girl’s attitude to life. Her positive attitude acts as a beacon of light, inspiring those around her to lift their spirits. As it was said by the Corinthians, “Let all that you do be done in love.” Through love, self-belief and determination she lives out what it takes to be an inspiring role model; understanding what it means to be special and unique. Thank you, Roxi, for being a rainbow in other people's clouds.

Year 6
In Isaiah it states, ‘in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength’. This quote resonates for this young lady as she is one of the quieter members of our class, but her REACH values have shone through to me this year in a humble and respectful way. I have watched her confidence relating to subjects such as Maths and Grammar grow and flourish through her resilience and high expectations – she is always striving to be the best that she can be. During RE sessions, she provides thoughtful and meaningful written responses demonstrating both kindness and empathy towards all others. Throughout all that she does, whether it’s through her chaplaincy role or just simply on the playground, she truly displays the virtue of love. This member of St David’s class is a loyal and fun-loving friend to many, and is kind and caring towards her Reception buddy, always taking time to listen and check in showing how she is made in the image and likeness of God. I am excited to see what you can achieve during your final term at St Joseph's and would love to see more glimmers of your confidence – thank you Sadie for being a valued member of our class.

I would like to give my governor’s award to a little girl who has fully immersed herself in the prayer life of the school this year. During prayer in the classroom, she has brought in prayers from home, some from visits to places of worship and some that she has written on her own. She has led prayer by using these, making the sign of the cross and has read them beautifully to enable the other children in the class to reflect during this time. During class mass, she is always the first to put her hand up to help with the offertory, doing so with such pride. Over the year, she has confidently made links in scripture and is able to make links to her own experiences. She naturally lives by our school values by showing commitment to deepening her faith, always showing love to others and having the hope every day to always strive to be the best she can be. This child has delighted in being a part of our school choir and showing how confident she can be. She is a kind friend, and plays kindly with children across the school. She is following in the footsteps of St Therese by constantly performing little acts of kindness that have made a big difference within our classroom. This child has gone above and beyond with her role in the School Council, always asking her peers if they have any suggestions for the school and acting with responsibility and empathy. Well done Hebe, you have been a fantastic example to us all!

With resilience; not only does she not give up, but she actively encourages us all to keep going. With empathy; not only is she kind, but she will always put others before herself. With aspirations; not only does she share her dreams, but she is excited for other children’s dreams. Her dedication to her Catholic faith is exemplary; she will share insights from her outside experiences which enriches our class discussions and she will take all the opportunities offered to participate in worship and prayer. Our school is so blessed to have this young lady as part of our school family. Well done, Charlotte.

Year 6
In Ephesians 4:2 it states, ‘Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love’. This young lady embodies this perfectly as I have watched her aspire to be the best she can be in all areas whether it is academic or social; she is truly following in the footsteps of Jesus. The kindness that shines out of her is exceptional to watch and she is able to lift others – her buddy, her friends, the staff - with her joy. She has an inquisitive nature and enjoys learning more about topics in our RE sessions, often providing thoughtful and relevant comments; she has pushed herself to produce the highest standard of work and I know that she is truly proud of many of her pieces. She is a member of the Chaplaincy team and she approaches everything with respect and enthusiasm, which has inspired others during the year. When we have written prayers during various activities, hers are empathetic, compassionate, and full of love for her family, friends and the wider world; her prayers often make me smile as they’re so full of hope and joy! She definitely inspires others through our virtues of faith, hope and love and I know that she will continue to be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud – thank you Safia for being the super star that you are.
